Travel & Stay

Getting here

We recommend flying into Geneva International Airport, which is just a 50 minute drive from Talloires/Menthon and 40 minutes from Annecy.

Getting around

Renting a Car

The easiest option, especially if you want to explore the area with flexibility during your stay!

  • Rent from the Swiss side. If you rent a car from Geneva Airport, we’d strongly recommend renting from the Swiss side of the airport (make sure you select this when booking your hire car). The Swiss cars come with a vignette, which is required for driving on Swiss roads and it’s a much quicker and easier route to get to the motorway. If you rent from the French side of Geneva airport you will have to pay an additional charge for the vignette which ends up more expensive, and is more hassle.

Check arrival times and opening hours. If arriving late in the evening into Geneva airport, make sure you check the opening times of the car hire, and select an out of hours pickup if needed.

Buses

From Geneva Airport to Annecy - You can get from Geneva Airport to Annecy Bus Station via FlixBus which takes around 50 minutes. There are only a few a day, so make sure you check the timetable!

  • Round the Lake from Annecy (to Talloires/Menthon) - Public bus - There is a public bus which runs every ~20 minutes around the lake - Sibra 20 bus - Annecy. We use this all the time and would recommend it for getting around (runs until around 10pm in September).

Taxi’s

Taxi’s can be pre-booked online and are around €120 each way (to Annecy), will be slightly more to Talloires/Menthon Saint Bernard, but we have previously got a taxi to Annecy and jumped on the public bus to Talloires.

Transport around Annecy

Taxis - They are almost non-existent and have to be pre-booked, so we wouldn’t rely on them

  • Parking - There are plenty of free car-parks around the lake (although if it’s really good weather some of the beach ones can get busy)

  • Cycling - There is a bike path which runs the whole circumference of the lake, there are loads of places to rent bikes and e-bikes and can be a lovely way of getting around on a sunny day

Where to stay

To make the most of the weekend’s celebrations we recommend staying in either Talloires,  Menthon-St-Bernard. These towns around Lake Annecy are accessible by car or public bus (from Annecy itself), and our favourites!

There’s a range of accommodation options in both towns, including hotels, Air B&Bs, campsites and other holiday rentals. We’d recommend looking on booking.com, Airbnb, VRBO and expedia.com for rentals, and there are campsites in the area too (some have mobile home options if you don’t fancy a tent!) .

Some hotels in the area:

  • Hôtel Beau Site Talloires- £££

  • Le Palace De Menthon - ££££

  • Hotel du Lac (Talloires) - ££

  • Le Pavillon Des Fleurs (Menthon) - £

  • La-Vallombreuse (Menthon Bed and Breakfast) - ££

Transport to the Chateau on the day

The Chateau is slightly up the hill from the town in Menthon-St-Bernard, so we are planning to put on some shuttle buses to take guests from the town in Menthon up to the venue. Public buses run around the lake in the daytime to the centre of Menthon.

There is also parking on site if you’d like to drive to the venue, and you are able to leave your car there overnight. It’s about a 30 minute walk to the Chateau from the main town so it may be nice to stretch your legs the morning after!

Carriages after the Wedding

WARNING: Taxis are not readily available, so we want to ensure everyone has a plan to get home.

We will be asking for an indication on the area you will be staying when you RSVP, and for more details nearer the time so that we can arrange transport to get people back. This is likely to involve a bus/mini buses which will drop people at locations close to where they are staying. Once we have arranged transport for you, we will be asking for a contribution to this (however likely to be more economical than booking individual taxis).
